Who is CARLYSKRIBBLES?

CARLYSKRIBBLES is the artist handle of Carly Mitchell. While growing up in the Adelaide Hills she found herself drawn to the arts, with a particular fascination in writing.

After trying and failing at sketching out her own characters, she begged her parents for a drawing tablet and signed up to deviantART. What followed were years of trial, error, and figuring out how to draw hands.

Her first published work was with Busybird Publishing and Naomi Rossthorn, All Horses Become the Stars. She has also worked as an editor, completing various projects such as Joshua Torrenn’s The Bandits Amongst Us, which was published with the First Nations Writer’s Festival.

Carly identifies as part of the LGBTQIA+ community, using she/they pronouns. She is currently working as a freelance illustrator, and is self-publishing her own webcomic, Soundtracked.

Talented, diligent and audacious. Carly’s artwork will help you realise your story into striking visuals that are sure to resonate with your audience, and stay with them long after they’ve turned the last page.
— Les Zig, author of This
Working with Carly was an enjoyable experience. She was able to take feedback well, and our discussions around her drawing the pictures ... was rich and an interesting streamlined process. Carly made it easy ... If I write another children’s book, I would be asking Carly to illustrate it.
— Naomi Rossthorn, Equine Therapist and Author of All Horses Becomes the Stars
Carly’s artwork has a real individual style, which I find suits most genres of books presented to her. Her dedication to each character’s development and suitability to a manuscript is one of focus and persistence to get exactly what the client envisioned.

She works closely with her clients to achieve the best and most stunning result for each creative project. When I get asked by authors if I know an illustrator, I never hesitate to put Carly’s name at the top of my list. I know they will always be over-serviced and 200% happy with the end result.
— Kev Howlett, Owner of Busybird Publishing
